Injustice: God's Among Us

Injustice is a fighting video game set in the DC Universe. It is set on a 2.5D platform meaning the player controls 3D models on a 2D platform. There are over 30 playable character to choose from leaving players with a wide choice. There is many gameplay modes to choose from including: Story Mode, Single Player fights and Online mode. It has 2 person multiplayer functions and Online servers meaning that players have the opportunity to fight against their friends and other people. As a result of the games taking place in the DC Universe, players are expected to have a general knowledge of the characters that are playable. This use of intertextuality also helps please the target audience.

Injustice contains an original storyline in which in an alternate universe The Joker tricks Superman into murdering his wife and unborn child. As a result of this, Superman goes crazy and becomes a ruthless dictator. Batman disagrees with Superman's methods, creates a regime and grabs the heroes from the main DC universe to help end Superman reign. What's different about the game is that some characters that would usually be considered good (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman) are evil and characters that would usually be considered evil (Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, Deathstroke) are considered good. Throughout the story their is 10 chapters where a player has to play as different characters to fight bosses and move on to the next segment. Injustice's control system is similar to many other games of the same genre. There are basic controls for light attacks, medium attacks and heavy attacks. You can move left and right, jump up and duck down. The better attacks however are from the combos. These are from joining together the buttons on the controller with the trigger movements. Both players have a health bar and they have to try to drain each others until it runs out. Both players also have a special meter bonus and when it gets full players have the chance to use a special move individual to each character.

The game was made by NetherRealm Studios- the company that made the Mortal Kombat franchise. Back in 2008 (5 years before this game was released) a crossover game called "Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe" was released. It was well-received by audiences. So Injustice was created to play on this idea outside of the Mortal Kombat Universe. People who pre-ordered the game got a code for Downloadable Content (DLC). Over time there was a lot more DLCs released giving access to exclusive characters and alternate costumes. There was also a comic series tie-in released as a prequel to the game. The comic and the game were both very well received by fans and critics with the sequel Injustice 2 being released in 2017.
